I think politics are discussed in the journal simply because we are at a politically tenuous time right now. I’m sure Home & Garden and Cat Fancy are doing political stuff right now.

I’m with you brother. You know Socrates says in the Apology that he went to the poets and discovered that while, on the one hand the average bystander had a better understanding of their work than the poets themselves, on the other, the poets thought that, because they were successful artists they were experts in other, non-related areas (like politics). I guess nothing has really changed in some 2,500 years.

Frank, some good points–I don’t know why people think that being a writer inherently makes them (him/her) politically astute. Usually there’s little or nor correlation.
