So "Ulysses" is a folk novel? It's pretty good.

And as Rick Moody points out in the new issue of The Believer (and as I've been saying out loud for years, though not to anyone under 18), aren't the vast majority of novels plotted in a form that merely echoes male sexual stimulation and release? Anticipation/Rising Action/Climax/Clean-Up. And although Rick Moody seems to think such formulaic structure is a bad thing, I don't necessarily agree. After all, there seems to be something essentially human about it. To me, the structure is less important than what's done within the structure.

Writing is good.
